Here’s a quick look at some fun we had before the Thanksgiving Holiday. As we move into December, there will be Christmas Parties from 1:30PM to 3PM on Dec 8th for the 6-9 year olds classes in the gym and for the 10-11 year olds classes in the fellowship hall. Hope to see your kids there!

Funny Thing About Time

Hello Parents, So the funny thing about time is there’s never enough and it flows so fast. I know, obvious, but follow me, I’m going somewhere. During service, I looked around and had a funny thought as I looked from Little Austin to Kellen to Tim to Stan and thought how fast life really does pass. Ok, so why does this matter? Here’s why, not all time is equal. There’s a video I’m posting below that is actually a video for people working in Children’s ministry, but he brings up an important point I want to share with you. God made your kids to naturally stop wanting to hang out with you all the time and learn from you around their early teen years onward, and that’s putting it kinda nicely. I remember when I turned about 12 I wouldn’t even want to be seen with my parents and remember telling my dad to please not walk to close to me in the mall. I know, ridiculous. Frankly I don’t remember why or where I got that idea, I just remember it happening. But here’s the thing, if God didn’t put that into how we grow up, your kids would live in your basement till they were 40. God is wise. Their natural pulling away is to create independence. What I want to point out is, though it’s never too late to model a strong authentic relationship with Jesus for your kids, there are portions of your childs life where […]

Family Ministry Part III(Conclusion)

Hello Parents, Here’s the final portion of that Article from Jim Wideman. Hopefully the last few emails have been thought provoking and I hope that you’ll find his suggestions for 7 steps that can help in creating the right environment for your children helpful to you. We’ll start this section with the last part of last week’s section. James Wang Children’s Pastor — We’re happy if they turn out just as spiritual as us. As long as they are not bad….VERY FEW PARENTS HAVE A VISION OF THEIR CHILDREN TO BE SPIRITUAL DYNAMOS! It’s not the same priority and desire we have for them in other areas. 29 TIMES THE BIBLE TELLS US THAT WE SHOULD LOVE THE LORD- WITH ALL OUR HEART, ALL OUR SOUL & ALL OUR STRENGTH!.- That’s our goal! So with that in mind, here are 7 steps for us to pass on to parents how to desire God’s best for the inhabitants of their homes and practice practical family ministry. 1. Establish who’s the king of the castle! Joshua 24:15 says “But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” What does this look like for your family? (It’s more than attending church once or twice a week! It’s getting involved on […]

Family Ministry Part II

Hello Parents, Last week I sent you a portion of an article about Family Ministry from a Children’s Minister named Jim Wideman that I wanted to share with you. Before doing that though, I wanted to offer some suggestions for useful sites and for people who are looking for good resources: Sites: [3]www.hiskids.net – they offer free streamed audio of audio dramas for all ages. Little kids will like paws and tales. Down Gilead Lane is geared for young teens. Adventures in Odyssey is for the ages in between. http://www.aiowiki.com/wiki/ – This is great to use with Adventures in Odyssey. It has useful categories such as episode by theme or by bible verse that it’s applicable to, etc. Very useful teaching aid. http://www.jellytelly.com/ – Now that focus on the family has bought the JellyTelly company, it’s become a hub of safe games and videos that are christian themed. It is made by the same guy that created VeggieTales. 2 Book Suggestions: Helping Your Child Become… by Tim & Kirsten King – After their first child entered the world, Tim and Kirsten eagerly approached a few of their parenting heroes, hoping to unlock their secrets. They waited for the golden key of wisdom to be handed to them. They wanted to know what to DO! Committed to discovering whatever they could from Gods Word and His people that would help them know what to do, they dug into the scriptures and other moral resources. After years of asking, searching, reading, and […]

Family Ministry Part I

Hello Parents, I recently read an article from a Children’s Minister named Jim Wideman that I wanted to share with you about perspectives on what the Bible says about raising children. He’s writing it in speaking to other Children’s Ministers, and has challenged me in my service to your families and to God on helping to build children with their own deep, rich walks with God. I’m breaking the article up into chunks because it’s a pretty lengthy article, but it’s a good one. Here’s Part I. James Wang Children’s Pastor — God’s plan to reach the world has always included the family. It doesn’t surprise me that the family and the church are under such attack. I’m glad we’re waking up, I just hope we repent and change our actions in time! In the early days of the modern Children’s Ministry Movement (1970’s) it would have really helped if we had read our Bible. Most of us were telling parents, “Go to church and give us your kids.” I now see without the church and family working together our kids will suffer. Two powers working together are stronger than either one on their own. To me family ministry is just helping the family want God’s best for their children at every age. Psalm 112:1-8 (NIV) tells us…”Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
who finds great delight in his commands. 2 His children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed…
6 Surely […]
